Top 5

My flight is later today and I’ve become overly anxious.   For the sake of setting clear goals and noting major concerns/worries, I’ve organized my thoughts into two lists.  Presenting my top 5’s…

Top 5 Goals:

1. Get a feel for international development and microfinance work while preparing for a job in one of the sectors upon my return

2. Become fluent in Spanish

3. Establish meaningful relationships

4. Experience the diverse Bolivian culture in both the cities and countryside

5. Complete the Inca Trail

Top 5 Concerns / Worries:

1. Getting robbed

2. Frustration with the slower pace in South America (relative to NYC)

3. Clouds at Machu Picchu or RIO not living up to the hype

4. Weird sickness (vaccinations + malaria meds hopefully alleviate this concern)

5. My Spanish skills remaining crappy

I’m cautiously optimistic about my trip but regardless of what happens it will be a hell of a learning experience!

No worries, man…other than your Spanish getting crappier. HA. You’ll have a great time.

I was in Peru just over a year ago now and it was awesome. I did the whole 9 and managed to make a 4 day stop in the Amazon. While there, I caught this nasty bug which put me out of commission for 2 out of the 4 days. To this day I’m not sure what it was, but it took me out. Massive headache, body pains, blurred vision. Could have been from the ice in one of the Mojitos I had in Cusco.

I’m not trying to scare you because I’m sure you’ll be fine. My buddy who was with me didn’t suffer from anything. Just be aware, sir.

    Have fun…holler.

Gosh, I hope you don’t get robbed while you’re sick by someone who’s Spanish you don’t understand..

JK, you’ll be good man, sure some things will happen, just don’t let them be entirely you’re fault, and then who cares, c’est la vie–or however you say that in Spanish.

Post a picture of the very first thing you saw when you got there, por favor. Take caare.

as you may recall, not only did i nearly get dragged into an alleyway by three guys, i also got some kinda weird allergic reaction which is FINALLY going away (some 9 months later)

in retrospec, the horrible looking skin condition probably saved my life, money, wellbeing whatever.

just dont look like a “chulo” walking around and you will be fine. or get some stage makeup to recreate horrible looking skin condition.

  4. Sagar Says:

It’s gonna be a great trip. Enjoy it! Just worry about your goals and forget about the worries (although do be cautious!).

Hit me up when you get a chance.
